Getting Creative with Cupcake Blvd

Back in December, Annapolis Fork was invited to take a cupcake decorating class at Cupcake Blvd in Gambrills. Our initial expectation was that we would be learning how to properly use an icing bag, the art of piping decorative flowers, and throwing a few sprinkles on a cupcake. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the class offered much more, and even gave us a newfound respect for the art of cake decorating.

Upon arrival, we were met by a friendly staff and a display full of beautiful cupcakes. We were then led back to the kitchen, where a long table was surrounded by our fellow classmates, and covered with balls of fondant, bags of icing, and some other fun goodies. Owner & Chef Angelette Cintron-Aviles greeted us with her vivacious and spunky personality and we could tell the class was going to be a lot of fun.

Our first challenge was fondant bow making. This was our first time working with fondant, and while some say it is similar to play dough, we were never play-dough Michelangelo’s growing up.  However, we were not going to be defeated by our very first task!  With a little patience, we assembled our fondant bow and moved on to cupcakes.  The first, and our favorite cupcake of the class, was the snow man.  Much easier than a bow, the snow man was simply fondant balls, pretzel sticks for arms, a carefully assembled hat and carrot nose, and a drawn on mouth and eyes. As we assembled one creative and cute cupcake after another, each one turned out to be too pretty to eat.

This class is packed full of fun, sweetness, creativity, and is perfect to attend solo or with family and/or friends.  Chef Angellette is a shining light in the kitchen, and a patient teacher that makes the learning fun and retainable. This class is not only a good time, but also gives you inspiration and new found skills to get creative with cupcakes on your own.

Here is some information about the classes:

Classes are open to those ages 10 and up, and require a minimum of four and maximum of 10 people. This intimate class size gives attendees one-on-one time with the instructor. It is perfect for individuals or small groups. The cost of the class is $40 per person, which includes the 90-minute decorating class with a lead designer, six cupcakes to decorate during the class, one cupcake to enjoy from the Flavor(s) of the Day, and beverages during the class.

To sign up for classes, please contact Cupcake Blvd at 443.875.1645.  A 50% non-refundable deposit will be taken at the time of sign-up.  A cancellation can be made within 72 hours of the class, and the deposit will go toward a future date or purchase at Cupcake Blvd.
